If the cavitation happened in hydraulic system, the movement of bubbles as the fluid flow in the liquid to the high pressure area, air bubbles under the effect of high pressure will quickly burst, causing local hydraulic impact, noise and vibration, on the other hand, due to destruction of bubble flow continuity, reduces the oil capacity of the tubing, flow rate and pressure fluctuations, make hydraulic components under impact load, affect the service life. At the same time, the oxygen in the bubble will corrode the surface of the metal element. This kind of corrosion caused by cavitation phenomenon is called cavitation corrosion.
Cavitation may occur in pumps, pipelines, and other places with throttling devices, especially in oil pumps, in hydraulic drives.
In order to reduce cavitation, the pressure at all points in the hydraulic system should be higher than the air separation pressure of the hydraulic oil. For example, the oil suction height of the oil pump should not be too high, the oil suction pipe diameter should not be too small (because the pipe diameter is too small will make the flow rate too fast and cause the pressure drop is very low), the oil pump speed should not be too high, the pipeline should be sealed well, because the outlet of the oil pipe should be submerged below the oil surface, etc. In short, drastic changes in flow rates and the mixing of outside air should be avoided.
Cavitation is one of the causes of various faults in hydraulic system, especially in high speed and high pressure hydraulic equipment.
