First, the filter cloth woven from ordinary cotton yarn can only be used for the separation of neutral filter pulp below 100ºC, acid filter pulp below 20ºC and alkaline filter pulp below 10ºC.

Second, in alkaline media, cotton filter cloth will swell. Shrinkage occurs in water and aluminum sulfate solutions. Therefore, it should be soaked in solution before use to pre-shrink.

Third, the cotton filter cloth has a weak resistance to mold erosion, and it is required to be pretreated with copper ammonia solution to be used in occasions that are prone to mildew mildew to increase the resistance.

Fourth, the filter cloth made of nitrocellulose has a hard surface and is easy to remove slag. It is stable to concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid and its mixed acid, hydrochloric acid solution, and zinc chloride solution, but it is not resistant to alkali.

Fifth, in reducing substances and organic solvents, it is susceptible to corrosion.

Sixth, nitrocellulose filter cloth has very dangerous flammability, which limits its use.
